The Suncoast Bonsai Society is for anyone and everyone who enjoys the art of bonsai. We are bonsai enthusiasts who share our excitement and knowledge with the community and each other. The club regularly features Guest Speakers and demonstrations at its meetings. Each month, one of the many techniques and skills of bonsai creation and maintenance is explored. For anyone looking for a great deal on cuttings, pots, books, etc. each meeting ends with a "raffle" of items donated by the members.
Always interested in something new that is related to bonsai, the club sponsors monthly field trips. Each one provides a chance to shop for that "dream" pot or tree, provides a deeper understanding of the art, or simply allows us to have some fun sharing our hobby with each other. To spread the word to the community about this ancient art form, we have an Outreach Program. Every few weeks our Outreach Program presents lectures, demonstrations and workshops throughout the area. It is an enjoyable way to attract new members too.
Of course, nothing can please the eye more than tables full of bonsai on display. This year we will have three Major Exhibits. Each one adds to the pride of all our members. The Chief Horticulturist for Sunken Gardens Botanical Park recently said, "The tastefulness of presentation and quality of the trees of the Suncoast Bonsai Club is superb. No matter what the occasion, the club is welcome to display here any time they wish."
The club is fortunate to have as members some highly skilled experts on bonsai. They include a published writer and three present, or former owners of bonsai nurseries. Need some information on bonsai? Just ask! Whether you are new to the art, but frustrated learning about it from books alone, or simply want to know more about bonsai, you are in luck. We have classes designed for the beginner. And, as a bonus to all members, you will get discounts at some area businesses and be able to check out books and magazines from our own club library.
While reading the next few pages, pick a meeting or nearby event and stop by for a visit. I think you will be as happy to meet us, as we will be to meet you.
