Unregulated Field Test

Perform an unregulated field test on the generator to determine whether the generator has stopped functioning or whether the problem lies elsewhere (like the regulator).

Remove the D+ wire from the generator (the big red wire). Tape it so it doesn't start a fire.
Remove the DF wire from the generator (green wire).
Connect the voltmeter to the D+ generator terminal and to ground.
Start the engine
BRIEFLY short the DF generator connection to ground. (If you short it for more than 5 seconds and the generator is working, you will BURN OUT THE GENERATOR.
